Extraordinary Vessels
5 Elemental Relationships
6 Conformations
My understanding of these concepts is that of the journey of the spirit from esoteric to exoteric, super consciousness to consciousness, the divine to the temporal.
It begins with conception and the fertilisation of the female ova by the male sperm.
At this point of contact consciousness becomes manifest in the temporal experience. Two channels also come into existence the Chong or penetrating vessel and the Dai or girdling vessel.
The Chong is there to provide ongoing nourishment at a primal level for the mortal existence and the Dai is there to hold it in place and support vertical energetic pathways by encircling the body.
The points for these two channels are as follows;
- The Chong, Spleen 4 on the instep of the foot and Pericardium 6 on the inside of the forearm
- The Dai, Gallbladder 41 on the lateral side of the foot and San Jiao 5 on the outside of the forearm.
These two channels have definite pathways but no point system of their own as such, this is in the very early stages of embryonic development. They use points that will in time become incorporated into other channel pathways as the physical body develops.
They are coupled in their use and the order of activation determines the channel selected, i.e. the Chong is accessed by Spleen 4 and Pericardium 6 in that order, the Dai by Gallbladder 41and San Jiao 5 in that order.
The master and coupling points for these two channels lie virtually opposite from each other anatomically, i.e. the points Spleen 4 and gallbladder 41 on the inside and the outside of the foot and Pericardium 6 and San Jiao 5 on the inside and outside of the forearm
If you can visualise a foetus in utero with arms and feet crossed these points on the feet and arms line up with each other and with the centres of the body.
As the fertilised Ova splits in the meiotic process we have the first manifestations of positive and negative or Yin and Yang and a channel that runs up the back, the Du Channel commanding the Yang rising energy and a channel the runs down the front, the Ren channel commanding the Yin descending energy.
These two channels have definite pathways and their own point system that manifests along with developing body, they are however (like all the extraordinary channels) activated by points from other channel systems.
The points for these two channels are as follows;
- The Du, Small Intestine 3 on the outside edge of the palm below the first knuckle of the little finger and Bladder 62 underneath the outside ankle bone.
- The Ren in a hollow space on the thumb side of the forearm just before the bony as the wrist crease starts and Kidney 6 just below the inside of the ankle bone
(These points can be viewed more specifically on any number of internet sites by searching for them by name)
As the body develops and the limbs elongate the remaining four channels are activated by accessing the above mentioned points in reverse order, i.e. San Jiao 5 and Gallbladder 41 in that order activate the Yang Wei and Pericardium 6 and Spleen 4 activate the Yin Wei, these channels cover the arms, Bladder 62 and Small Intestine 3 in that order activate the Yang Qiao and Kidney 6 and Lung 7 in that order activate the Yin Qiao these channels cover the legs.
This is the metaphysical template for the physical structure that becomes the human form. These are the extraordinary vessels.
The Extraordinary vessels act as reservoirs, able to take on excess when the body has trouble coping with the demands placed upon it and to resupply in times of taxation.
